GENERAL INFORMATION

Climate
Edinburgh's weather is usually at its pleasantest in July with daytime highs of 18°-24° C (64°-78° F) and mild nights. However, rain is always likely, so an umbrella or raincoat is definitely advisable.

Money
British currency is the pound sterling (£). Besides the Bank of England banknotes circulating throughout the U.K., three Scottish banks issue their own notes (Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland). Exchange bureaux are located at the airport, the central railway station (Waverley) and at many places in the town centre. Facilities are available 7 days per week. Cash dispensers are numerous throughout the city and accept a variety of cards. Traveller's cheques can be cashed in exchange bureaux and banks.

Visa
Entry regulations to Britain depend on the nationality of the visitor; most people coming from outside the EU will require a visa. Please check details with your local/nearest British embassy or consulate.

Flights to Edinburgh
There are direct flights to Edinburgh from a number of airports in Europe. Participants from further away will be able to get internal flights to Edinburgh from London Heathrow or Gatwick or Stansted airports. Alternatively, there are good train connections between central London (King's Cross station) and Edinburgh (Waverley station).

On arrival
We plan to have people at Edinburgh Airport throughout Sunday 9th July to meet participants and help them to get to Pollock Halls. For the sake of those arriving on other days, information about buses and taxis from the airport to the city will be given in the 3rd circular.
